National parks are the most valuable natural areas in each country. They hide the most beautiful national treasures and exploring them offers unique experiences. The small, but intended territory of Slovakia boasts nine national parks.

The Tatra National Park

In the highest mountains of the Carpathians there is a unique relief made by an iceberg from the last period of Ice Age. In 1948 the oldest Tatra National Park was established. It is the park with the biggest number of tarns, and original kinds of flora and fauna. The highest peak is Gerlachovský Peak (2,655 m) and there is also the national symbol of all Slovak people - Kriváň Peak (2,495 m).
